DEMOCRACY GREEN

Is a movement birthed from the flood waters of Hurricane Florence to connect frontline communities with immediate rapid response, rapid relief, mutual aid and the building of long-term political power in the wake of disasters.

Democracy Green focuses on the reformation of our democracy through the 4 Justices:

Democracy Green Collective Council Members from across the state joined on the campus of Johnson C. Smith for an all day training in environmental organizing.

Post this training, council members have given comment during statewide press conferences on guaranteed housing in the wake of COVID-19, elevating the need for land justice in the wake of this crisis.

Democracy Green joined in unification and building of political power with impacted residents of Eastern NC in the wake of Hurricane Florence.

Democracy Green coordinated the rescue of 250+ individuals during Hurricane Florence. Board member, La'Meshia gave comments during this press conference.

Democracy Green, as a co-planner and facilitator hosted a town hall for the residents of Bladen County and Cumberland. To get critical information concerning the PFAs and GenX contamination to communities.

Democracy Green worked in partnership with Center for Environmental Health, Friends of the Earth, Clean Cape Fear, Cape Fear River Watch, Disability Rights NC, Dr. Kyle Horton, medical experts,

Democracy Green is an organization created and ran by native North Carolinians-of-color to address the systemic impacts burdening our most climate impacted and disenfranchised communities across North Carolina. While simultaneously working in partnership with communities, groups and organizations across the historic U.S. South, in addition to areas hailing the descendants of U.S. chattel slavery and Indigenous sovereign nations.

Justice

Democracy Green Collectives are located across the state. Democracy Green Collectives are regional tables of engaged activists, known as Council Members. Council members engage in advocacy and campaigns to elevate the most pressing needs in their communities.

Democracy Green Collective Council Members are supported with critical training, workshops, resources and opportunities to elevate these concerns statewide and nationally.

Various Democracy Green Council Members have been paired with paid-remote jobs as canvassers, organizers, coordinators, interns and fellows.
